History of the Proposed Development  at Hampton Bay

On March 22nd, 2006 a meeting was held by Orange County at the Northlake Park Elementary School, to explain the proposed development known as “Hampton Bay” to the residents of the Lake Mary Jane area. Over 400 residents showed up representing over half of the total number of homes in the area. The vast majority of the homeowners were concerned about the negative impact the new development would have on their neighborhoods and lifestyles.

Many residents left the meeting feeling that the proposed project had enough issues that it would not be considered a “done deal”. Because of this, the leaders of the Isle of Pines property owners association decided to bring all the neighborhoods together to see if there was interest in challenging the development. Subsequent smaller meetings determined possible problems with the project’s zoning and the Lake Mary Jane Alliance was formed. The Alliance includes all of the neighborhoods in and around the Lake Mary Jane area including Isle of Pines, Lake and Pine estates, Live Oak estates and Lake Mary Jane shores. The group was incorporated in April 2006, a web-site was started,  a survey was sent to homeowners, committees were formed and a mission statement developed. The Alliance was formed to address all future development issues even though the initial task was to challenge the Hampton Bay project.

Together we will make a difference!
